Abstract

This research aims to examine strategies for strengthening local food security through the use of Moringa Oleifera as an innovative food product. Moringa is known as a  miracle tree or superfood rich in nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. However, it is not yet optimally utilized in many areas of Indonesia due to myths and a lack of public awareness. The research used a  qualitative approach with a single case study of a moringa-based UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise) in Bojonegoro, East Java. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with the UMKM owner, direct observation of the production process, and content analysis of the innovative products created. This method was designed to describe in detail the practices, challenges, and opportunities in managing moringa products. The results show that this UMKM successfully developed over 20 product variants, ranging from food (noodles, fried rice, ice cream) to supplements (capsules) and cosmetics (soap), using self-designed appropriate technology. Strategic partnerships with private companies like Pertamina IPJU and government agencies were instrumental in facilitating marketing, promotion, and licensing. Despite facing challenges such as local myths about moringa and limited raw materials to meet large-scale demand (up to 15 tons for export), the UMKM demonstrated significant potential for improving food security and creating jobs. Moringa product innovation proved to be an effective strategy for increasing the economic value and public acceptance of local food ingredients. Collaboration among UMKMs, the private sector, and the government is necessary to overcome obstacles, expand production scale, and educate the public about the benefits of moringa.
