Digitalization of Non-Pulpit Dakwah: Islamic Civilization Media Adaptation During the COVID-19 Pandemic (2020-2022)
Abstract
This study examines the transformation of non-pulpit da'wah in East Java during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2022) using historical methods and Digital Historical and Sociological approaches. Before the pandemic, non-pulpit da'wah already utilized print, radio, television, and the internet. However, the pandemic accelerated the digitalization of da'wah media: print media shifted to digital formats, radio developed visual content on platforms like YouTube, television optimized online media, and the internet gave rise to popular digital preachers. This transformation altered da'wah patterns both personally and institutionally, expanding the reach and increasing the effectiveness of da'wah dissemination in the digital era. This study demonstrates the importance of adapting da'wah media to technological developments to address social and public health challenges during the pandemic.
