Unsur Intrinsik dalam Novel al-Kernak Kafe karya Naguib Mahfoudz

Abstract

Novels are a form of literary work that plays an important role and function for readers through the educational values contained within them. A literary work will be more interesting if it is combined with intrinsic elements that can attract the interest of readers, such as the novel Al Kernak Kafe by Naguib Mahfoud. The method used in this study is qualitative description. The purpose of this study is to analyze the intrinsic elements found in the novel. This study shows that Naguib Mahfoud's novel Al Kernak Cafe has themes of friendship, love, loyalty, and conflict between tradition and modernity. Each character has a strong and diverse personality that represents various layers of Egyptian society at that time, from the cafe owner to his loyal customers. Each character adds color and rich dynamics to the story.Intrinsic elements are an important aspect studied in literary science, especially in works such as short stories and novels. Literary science itself is a field that studies various things related to the world of literature. Literature can be understood as a text that contains messages, directions, or certain values for its readers. In every literary work, there are two main components that cannot be separated, namely intrinsic and extrinsic elements. This study will focus on intrinsic elements, namely elements that play a role in shaping and bringing a story to life.
