Wacana Pemberitaan Banjir Bali Pada Media Daring Merdeka.Com Kajian Ekolinguistik Kritis
Abstract
This study examines the discourse of flood reporting in Bali published on the online media Merdeka.com using Arran Stibbe's Critical Ecolinguistics theory. This theory emphasizes how language and narratives in media texts reflect and shape the relationship between humans and the environment, while revealing the role of power and ideology in meaning construction that often reinforces anthropocentric dominance over nature. The main objective of the research is to analyze the ecological implications in flood reporting, including narrative biases that neglect environmental sustainability aspects and promote public ecological awareness. The method used is critical discourse analysis integrated with Stibbe's ecolinguistic perspective, encompassing the examination of text structure, metaphors, framing, and "stories we live by" that shape social reality. The results indicate that Merdeka.com's reporting not only reports the factual events of the floods but also contains ideologies that normalize environmental exploitation, such as depicting disasters as isolated incidents without the context of climate change or deforestation. These findings contribute to understanding the media's role in shaping ecological behavior and encouraging more responsible journalistic practices. This study is expected to serve as a reference for the development of ecolinguistics and environmental media studies in Indonesia, with implications for environmental communication policies that are more inclusive toward ecosystems.
