Challenges and Opportunities for Learning the History of Islamic Civilization in the Digital Era
Case Study at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Adab dan Budaya Islam Riyadul ‘Ulum Tasikmalaya
Abstract
Along with the advancement of digital technology, universities are certainly faced with the need to adjust learning methods to remain relevant and interesting for students. This study aims to identify challenges and opportunities in learning the history of Islamic civilization in the digital era, with a case study at the Riyadul 'Ulum Islamic Adab and Culture College, Tasikmalaya. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with lecturers and students, observation of the learning process, analysis of documents related to the curriculum and the use of digital media. The results of the study show that the main challenges include limited digital literacy of lecturers and students, as well as resistance to the implementation of new learning methods. However, digitalization also offers great opportunities, such as wider access to learning resources, improving the quality of teaching interactions, and flexibility in delivering materials. The results of this study conclude that with the application of the right strategy for lecturers, students and curriculum adaptation following the development of digital technology, it can be an effective tool to enrich the learning of the history of Islamic civilization at the Riyadul 'Ulum Islamic Adab and Culture College.
