Abstract

The rise of social media has changed the way journalists disseminate news and information to the public, with language playing an important role in shaping this communication. This research conducts a linguistic analysis of journalistic language use on social media, examining how language reflects and influences social and cultural dynamics in the digital age. Through a sociolinguistic context, this research explores how journalists use language to convey information, persuading audiences. The findings from this study will provide insights into the complex interactions between language, journalism, and social media, shedding light on the implications of effective communication, media literacy, and democratic participation in the digital age. By investigating the language of journalism on social media, this study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the impact of using journalism on social media in a sociolinguistic context. The approach in this study uses a qualitative method by analysing news articles from the guardian web. Important findings prove that the use of journalistic language on social media can influence public perception and build identity, language can be used as a tool to influence public opinion and build solidarity, besides this research proves that journalistic language on social media is influenced by social and cultural contexts. The implications of this research are that the use of journalistic language on social media must be considered carefully because it can affect public perception and public opinion, this research emphasises the importance of understanding the social and cultural context in the use of journalistic language on social media.
